De-spiking
You can use the De-spike tool to remove spikes from the selected polylines. If you need to perform other smoothing related actions on polyline sets, see the other polyline set smoothing tools.
- At the top of the form, select a source from the 'Source' drop-down list. This selection populates the table below with all available polyline sets.
- From the list of the available polyline sets in the selected source, select the polyline set(s) to modify by checking the individual check boxes.
- Enter a Gradient threshold, which is a threshold for the gradient angle between three successive points above which data points will be removed. Try different threshold values to see which gives the best results.
You can also use the polyline Editing tools to optimize the polylines.
The removal process looks at three successive polyline points: 1, 2 and 3. It determines the angle 2-1-3 and the angle 2-3-1. If the angles are on average larger than the threshold value, point 2 is ‘removed’, i.e. it is moved to the polyline segment between points 1 and 3.
Click Apply or OK.
